Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese Method of treatment
that originated about 4,000 years ago. The belief
with traditional Chinese medicine is that energy, or qi
("chee"), is the basic life force present in all living
things. When a person is healthy physically,
emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, the qi runs
freely through pathways in the body called meridians.
When we experience disease, emotional trauma, mental
stress, physical injury, or have poor eating or sleeping
patterns, it creates an imbalance in the flow of energy
in the meridians.
Acupuncture works to regulate and harmonize the qi in
the meridians and to help the body restore itself to a
healthy state. It is also used to prevent the
development of illnesses. The primary purpose of
acupuncture therapies is to move energy.
The client fills out a health history questionnaire which the acupuncturist reviews in detail with the client in order to determine the best possible treatment. Any and all information discussed is strictly confidential. An accurate diagnosis is made and the appropriate treatment is given. Sterile, disposable needles are ultra-thin and are painlessly placed into specific points on the body. It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing to the appointment. The appointments last approximately one hour. The initial visit, however, may take up to 1-1/4 hours.
From the minute people walk into the front office, they comment on the immediate feeling of serenity that comes over them. This acupuncture office has a very relaxing atmosphere with calming music playing softly in the background. There are so many interesting articles and informational newsletters, that some clients arrive 15 minutes early just to sit, read, and enjoy a cup of green tea while they wait. While being treated, the client relaxes in a private, comfortable room, with soothing music playing while allowing the healing process to begin. After approximately 10-30 minutes, the treatment ends with tuina massage, a form of deep tissue massage. Clients leave the office feeling better, more relaxed, and a little more educated on how to help themselves achieve a healthier state.
Each person is unique and responds differently to treatment. The length of treatments depends on a number of variables: the type and severity of the symptoms, and the client's general state of health. Each client is evaluated often in order to assess his/her condition and treatment plan. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative. For example, if a person experiences relief for 1-2 days, subsequent treatments should relieve symptoms for longer periods of time. Usually a client will be seen weekly, but as symptoms subside, treatments may be spread out to two weeks, then four weeks, etc.
This office does not bill insurance companies directly, but we will be happy to provide the client with documentation needed to submit for reimbursement.
The National
Institute of Health (NIH) and the
World
Health Organization (WHO) recognize acupuncture as
